Maltese Puppies for Sale in Michigan

Michigan is a thousand miles from the New Orleans area, which rules out the drive for most people and makes the flight nanny the obvious answer: there is a nonstop to Detroit and the puppy is in your hands the same afternoon. Five puppies, Cody, Callie, Miki, Mashi and Maru, are available now at $600 each; Cody, Callie and Miki are teacup-sized.

How does a puppy get from Louisiana to Michigan?

From the New Orleans area toRoad miles, roughlyDriving time, roughly
Detroit1,06016 hours
Ann Arbor1,04015 to 16 hours
Lansing1,04016 hours
Grand Rapids1,05016 hours
Traverse City1,18018 hours

Nobody should drive sixteen hours with a twelve week old puppy, and nobody needs to. A flight nanny flies with the puppy in the cabin, in a carrier under the seat, on the nonstop from New Orleans to Detroit, and hands it to you at arrivals; from Grand Rapids or the north it is one change. Ground transport by a dedicated pet carrier is the alternative, two to three days by road with the puppy in a climate-controlled van and updates along the way, and it suits anyone who would rather not meet a flight. Collecting in person is welcome if you happen to be travelling south; some Michigan families have combined it with a Gulf Coast holiday. Travel is quoted for your route and paid by you. We never ship a puppy as cargo.

What catches Michigan buyers out

Winter. From December to February a ground transport across the Midwest can be delayed by weather, and a flight is the better choice; a Maltese puppy arriving into a Michigan January needs a warm car waiting, not a walk across a car park. The coat in the snow. A long Maltese coat picks up ice balls between the toes and along the belly; a clipped coat and a sweater, or boots, make a Michigan winter easy. Salt. Wash the feet after every walk on a treated sidewalk; it burns pads and a dog this size licks it off. The wait. Michigan has fewer Maltese breeders than its size suggests, and buyers often wait a year for a local litter; a puppy from here can be home in a week.

What to check about any Maltese breeder in Michigan

The same four things you should check about us. Which health tests were run on both parents, by name, and can you see the results: for a Maltese that means patellar luxation, cardiac examination, a CAER eye examination and bile acids for liver shunt. How old the puppy is when it leaves; twelve weeks is right and eight is a seller in a hurry. Whether the parents are shown, titled and registered, and whether you can see them. And what happens to the dog if your circumstances change. A Michigan breeder who answers all four plainly is worth driving to. One who does not is not worth the short drive either.

Questions people ask

How much do Maltese puppies cost in Michigan?

Listings in Michigan commonly run from about $1,500 to $3,500 for a Maltese puppy, more with "teacup" in front of the name. A puppy from Divine Maltese is $600, with travel to Michigan quoted separately and paid by the buyer.

How does a puppy get from Louisiana to Michigan?

By flight nanny in the aircraft cabin, handed to you at your airport the same day; by ground transport over two to three days; or you collect in person. A puppy never travels as cargo.

Are the puppies AKC registered and health tested?

Yes. Every puppy is AKC registered, on Limited Registration for pets, and both parents are tested for patellar luxation, cardiac disease, eye disease (CAER) and liver shunt (bile acids). The certificates are shown on request.

Can I see the parents if I am in Michigan?

By video call, with the puppy and its mother in the room, and in person if you drive down. The parents of every litter are on this site with their pedigrees and show records.
