Maltese Puppies for Sale in Texas

Texas is next door. Houston is a comfortable drive from the New Orleans area, and the kennel's own history runs through Texas: our handlers, several of the breeders we share dogs with, and a good many of the champions on this site have lived there. Five puppies, Cody, Callie, Miki, Mashi and Maru, are available now at $600 each; Cody, Callie and Miki are teacup-sized.

Which way is best for Texas?

East Texas families nearly always collect in person: I-10 west from New Orleans to Houston is a straight run, and the puppy rides home on a lap. Dallas, Austin and San Antonio are a long day each way, and many buyers from there prefer the flight nanny: New Orleans has nonstop flights to all four big Texas airports, and the puppy flies in the cabin and is handed to you at arrivals. Ground transport by a dedicated carrier works well for Texas because the road time is short; it is often a one-day run rather than the two or three it takes to reach the north. Travel is quoted for your route and paid by you. We do not ship as cargo.

What catches Texas buyers out

Summer heat on the road. A Maltese puppy in a car in August needs the air conditioning on from the first minute and a carrier out of the sun; a stop for fuel is a stop with the engine running. Distance within the state. People forget that El Paso is further from Houston than Houston is from us; if you are west of San Antonio, fly. The listings. Texas has more Maltese sellers than any state except Florida, and the "teacup" trade there is busy; read the teacup page before you pay a premium for a word. Lease clauses, as everywhere: get the dog permitted in writing first.

What to check about any Maltese breeder in Texas

The same four things you should check about us. Which health tests were run on both parents, by name, and can you see the results: for a Maltese that means patellar luxation, cardiac examination, a CAER eye examination and bile acids for liver shunt. How old the puppy is when it leaves; twelve weeks is right and eight is a seller in a hurry. Whether the parents are shown, titled and registered, and whether you can see them. And what happens to the dog if your circumstances change. A Texas breeder who answers all four plainly is worth driving to. One who does not is not worth the short drive either.

Questions people ask

How much do Maltese puppies cost in Texas?

Listings in Texas commonly run from about $1,500 to $3,500 for a Maltese puppy, more with "teacup" in front of the name. A puppy from Divine Maltese is $600, with travel to Texas quoted separately and paid by the buyer.

How does a puppy get from Louisiana to Texas?

By flight nanny in the aircraft cabin, handed to you at your airport the same day; by ground transport over two to three days; or you collect in person. A puppy never travels as cargo.

Are the puppies AKC registered and health tested?

Yes. Every puppy is AKC registered, on Limited Registration for pets, and both parents are tested for patellar luxation, cardiac disease, eye disease (CAER) and liver shunt (bile acids). The certificates are shown on request.

Can I see the parents if I am in Texas?

By video call, with the puppy and its mother in the room, and in person if you drive down. The parents of every litter are on this site with their pedigrees and show records.
