The full terms you sign when you buy a puppy from me, published here so you
can read them before you commit rather than after. The form is first and the
terms follow it; read down before you sign. Every puppy is sold under
a written contract, and this is it. Nothing in the signed version differs
from what is on this page. If a term does not suit you, say so before you
arrange anything rather than discovering it at handover.

The terms
What you are signing above, in full.
1. The parties and the puppy
The seller is Angie Stanberry, trading as Divine Maltese, in the New Orleans
area of Louisiana. The buyer is you. The contract identifies the specific puppy
by name, sex, date of birth and AKC registration.
2. Price and payment
- The price is $600. It does not vary by sex.
- The price is paid before the puppy travels, or at collection.
- Travel, if required, is quoted separately for your route and paid by you.
The options are collection in person, a flight nanny who carries the puppy in
the aircraft cabin, or ground transport over two to three days. A puppy is
never shipped as unaccompanied cargo.
- No other fee is charged at any point.
3. If a date moves or I cancel
- If I cancel for any reason, including the puppy failing its pre-travel
veterinary examination, anything you have paid is refunded in full or
transferred to another puppy, at your choice.
- If a travel date moves for weather, a heat advisory or a road closure, that
is not a cancellation. You are told why and a new date is agreed.
4. What I warrant
At the time the puppy leaves my care:
- It has been examined by my veterinarian and found healthy on that
examination, and it travels with the certificate of health.
- Its vaccinations are up to date for its age and it has been wormed, and it
travels with the written record showing every date.
- Both of its parents have been tested for patellar luxation, examined for
cardiac defects, examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist under the CAER scheme,
and bile acid tested for liver shunt, and the certificates are shown on request.
- It leaves with its AKC registration papers, on Limited Registration for a
pet puppy, and with a week's supply of the food it is eating.
- A pet puppy is at least twelve weeks old and a show puppy at least six
months old. I do not release puppies earlier.
5. Health guarantee
- Condition: your own licensed veterinarian must examine the puppy
within one week of collection. That examination activates the guarantee.
Without it there is no guarantee, because there is no independent record of
the puppy's condition on arrival.
- If that examination finds a serious congenital or hereditary defect
that materially affects the dog's quality of life, notify me within 48 hours
with the veterinarian's written findings.
- Remedy: a replacement puppy from a future litter, or a full refund of the
purchase price, at your choice.
- You are not required to return the dog to claim. By then it is your
dog and asking would be unreasonable.
- The guarantee covers the purchase price only. Veterinary costs you incur are
yours, which is what pet insurance is for.
- It does not cover parasites, minor or self-resolving conditions, injury, or
anything arising after the first veterinary examination.
6. Your obligations
- Have the puppy examined by your own vet within one week of arrival.
- Complete the vaccination course on your veterinarian's schedule.
- Provide appropriate food, shelter, exercise, grooming and veterinary care
for the dog's life.
- Confirm before purchase that your lease, HOA and insurer permit a dog. I
will hold a puppy while you get this in writing.
- Do not leave the dog chained, continuously confined, or outdoors
unattended. This is a five pound dog.
7. Rehoming, and the take-back
I will take back any dog I have bred, at any point in its life, with no
time limit and no questions asked.
- If you can no longer keep the dog, at any age and for any reason, contact
me first.
- Do not sell or give the dog to anyone else, and never surrender it to a
shelter, without contacting me first. Nothing bred here may be resold.
- There is no refund at that stage. This is a commitment that a dog I bred
never has to take its chances, not a returns policy.
- I ask only that you tell me honestly what has changed, so the dog can be
placed properly.
8. Breeding
Pet puppies are sold as companions, on AKC Limited Registration and a spay or
neuter agreement, and are not to be bred from. The timing of the spay or neuter
is a decision for you and your veterinarian; discuss it at the first visit. Show
puppies are sold on their own written terms, agreed individually.
9. General
- This contract is governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana.
- It is the entire agreement. Nothing said in conversation, by message or on
this website overrides it.
- If any single clause is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
- Both parties receive a signed copy.
Ask me about any clause and I will explain what it is
for. If it does not suit, say so now rather than at handover:
