This is the history page from the first Divine Maltese website, written when the kennel was ten years old. It is kept because the dogs on it are the dogs every pedigree on this site goes back to. The current version of the story, with what the record means for a puppy buyer today, is on the about page.
The kennel began in 1992 and has bred only Maltese since. It was founded on three
lines, Marcris, Pashes and Su-Le, with dogs from Marcris, Rhapsody and Pashes
Maltese and help from Hi-Lite Maltese, and on the advice of the breeders behind
those names.
The first champion was CH Rhapsody's White Pepper ROM, Pepper, who went on to
earn her Register of Merit as a producer: a Best of Winners at a regional
specialty, a Toy Group placement from the puppy class, and a son finished entirely
by a novice owner. She spent her retirement on the back of the sofa supervising
the household.
CH Lepetit's
Heavenly Seraphim ROM, Sera, was the first show dog and the second champion.
She is the dog two beginners learned the coat on, every brush,
shampoo and wrap, and she finished in spite of them. Her litter of three all
finished, and one of them, CH Divine's Heavenly Breeze, won the American Maltese
Association's National Grand Sweepstakes in 1997.
Then came
CH Marcris Indecent Proposal ROM, Indy, the sire this kennel is known for.
Used
sparingly and almost only among friends, he produced fifty-three champions and an
obedience titled dog. His first champion, CH Rhapsody's Indecent Mystery, was the
third ranked Maltese in the country in 1997; his children won their classes at the
AMA National every year from 1996 to 2000; and his son CH Divine's Indecent
Desperado, Bandit, went Winners Dog and Best of Winners at the 1999 National from
the puppy class, then on to seven all breed Bests in Show and the number one
ranking in 2001 and 2002. Silk coats, black pigment, correct outlines and good
heads, in line breeding and outcrosses alike: that is what Indy gave the line.
The other
foundation was CH Marcris Divinely Risque' ROM, Divine, Indy's half sister.
She
produced fifteen champions, Bandit among them, and passed on the two things hardest
to recover once lost, a pure silk coat and a correct front and rear. Most of the
females in the pedigrees go back to her.
The Register of Merit is the AMA's producer award, five champions for a sire and three for a dam. The dogs below, owned or bred here, earned it.
